Biostimulants vs. fertilizers: where each one earns its place
It's tempting to treat every input in a tank mix as interchangeable nutrition. In practice, fertilizers and biostimulants do fundamentally different jobs — and the best programmes use them in deliberate combination rather than substituting one for the other.
What a fertilizer does
A fertilizer supplies the elements a plant needs to build tissue: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and the micronutrients that drive enzyme systems. The guaranteed analysis on the label is a direct statement of what you're adding to the crop.
What a biostimulant does
A biostimulant doesn't primarily add nutrients — it changes how the plant grows and copes. Amino acids, humic and fulvic substances, and seaweed extracts influence rooting, nutrient uptake efficiency, and tolerance to abiotic stress like drought, cold, or salinity. The effect shows up as better use of the nutrition already present.
Using them together
The two are complementary. A balanced NPK provides the building blocks; an amino acid or fulvic input helps the plant move and assimilate them, especially during high-demand stages or under stress. A rooting biostimulant early in the cycle can make every later fertigation more effective.

- Match the biostimulant to the job: rooting, fruit set, ripening, or stress recovery.
